Abstract
Purpose – This research analyses the stability of a number of banks operating in Malaysia by using descriptive statistical analysis based on internal variables. These include the characteristics of the bank, capital adequacy ratio, ratio of profitability, liquidity ratio and the ratio of bank operations.
Methodology/approach – Each bank’s stability is studied using z-score analysis. Data are sourced from the balance sheets and income statements of the banks from 2000 to 2011.
Findings – The results indicate that characteristics of a bank do influence a bank’s performance. There are significant differences in financial ratios between Islamic and conventional banking. Islamic banks provide a lower loan loss of capital to cover impaired loans than conventional banks. This provides high capital based on the mean value obtained. The capital ratio allows both sets of banks to meet the capital adequacy ratio set by the Central Bank of Malaysia. Meanwhile, in profitability ratios, conventional banks have higher returns on higher assets, whereas Islamic Banking has higher returns on higher equity. Only 8 Islamic banks and 11 conventional banks are highly stable banking institutions in Malaysia.
Originality/value – Islamic and conventional banking systems in Malaysia need further improvement to deal with unexpected economics crises and increased competition between the two. Hence, Islamic banking must be refined, especially for improving their stability to attract more investments for further development and performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to determine the factors that influence ethical banking behavior among millennials and Gen-Z in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
A stratified sample of 525 millennials and Gen-Z of Malaysian banking customers was used. Extended ethical decision-making (EDM) model was tested using partial least square-structural equation model for the analysis.
Findings
The findings indicated that the engagement of millennials and Gen-Z in ethical banking is influenced by factors such as intention, judgment and awareness, which shaped both generations’ ethical banking behavior.
Practical implications
This study could be a central reference point and assist banking institutions in understanding the preferences of millennials and Gen-Z.
Originality/value
This study extends the previous EDM model that focused solely on consumer's belief systems. Three aspects differentiate this paper and contribute to its originality, namely, the uniqueness of millennials and Gen-Z behavior, incorporating new variables along with the EDM models and study in Malaysian context.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to assess customer loyalty towards halal cosmetics using three integrated loyalty routes of product quality, emotional attachment and religious determinants.
Design/methodology/approach
The data for this study were gathered from 457 s cosmetics customers. Variance-based structural equation modelling was applied to assess the association between product quality, emotional attachment, religiosity, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty.
Findings
This study reveals that for halal cosmetics, customer loyalty is driven more by emotional attachment and product quality than by religiosity. Further, the religiosity does not moderate the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Finally, this study reveals that the impact of emotional attachment and product quality on customer loyalty is partly through strengthening customer satisfaction.
Practical implications
This study provides an opportunity for halal cosmetics managers to increase customer loyalty through the development of emotional attachment and product quality. To develop customer loyalty towards their halal cosmetic products, this study suggests that halal cosmetics managers should offer high-quality products and continuously innovate their cosmetic products.
Originality/value
This is an early empirical study attempting to examine the link between religiosity and customer loyalty in halal cosmetic products.

Abstract
The effectiveness of delivering information requiresindividuals, tools or channels that are superior and appropriate. This effort must be planned and considered carefully so that everything that is to be conveyed and implemented can be conveyed easily and effectively. Therefore, the use of rhetorical language is regarded as a stepping stone that provides confidence and a higher level of effectiveness. `Rhetoric as an influential art not only plays a role in strengthening power or influencing the thoughts and emotions of others but also stimulate sthe balance of social relations. Through this research, each rhetorical feature is highlighted to discuss its role and functions in the discourse. Using Enos and Brown’s Modern Rhetorical Theory (1993), a total of 20 official conferences on the latest developments of the spread of covid-19 infection were discussed. Findings have shown that there were four main types of rhetoric, i.e. Statistical conclusions which include 34% of expository techniques, 30% of descriptive, 33% of persuasion and only 3% for argumentation techniques. This also implies that rhetoric language is very important in ensuring the dissemination of knowledge among the institution and people is effective and and transparent.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the tendency that Malaysian consumers will choose the recombinant collagen-like protein (RCLP) from bacteria as an alternative source of collagen in their consumption and the determinants of the consumer acceptance.
Design/methodology/approach
Quantitative approach is adopted in the study. Descriptive analysis and logistic regression are used to analyze primary data collected from a survey.
Findings
The likelihood of consumers choosing RCLP as an alternative source of collagen is higher among elderly and females. The choice is significantly influenced by the idea that the collagen should support maqasid al-syariah, approved by national Islamic body, should clear on the ingredients used and could boost local economic activities in the future.
Research limitations/implications
An ethical halal policy should be outlined as the guiding principles to the potential producers of RCLP.
Originality/value
An alternative source of collagen using bacteria as proposed is not yet being introduced in Malaysian industry, and the analysis on probability that consumers will accept this new sourced collagen product is using primary data from survey.
